CCP’s Annual Judith Stark Contest is Back!
If you enjoy writing creatively and would like the opportunity to share your work, then the Judith Stark creative writing contest is the perfect opportunity for you! Better yet, it’s also happening right now! The Judith Stark contest is an annual event here at CCP which allows creative writers to submit their work for cash prizes. This contest is open to all students that attend CCP, at the main campus and all of the regional campuses as well. The contest is still currently open and accepting submissions for works of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and even scripts!
Winning this contest is an amazing opportunity especially if you intend on pursuing writing in your future working career and your future academic career. Having your work celebrated as a Judith Stark winning piece will give it merit and prestige, gaining this will look great on anyone’s resume and impress both future employers and colleges, if you decide to keep pursuing schooling after CCP. Abigail Appleton an alumni of CCP and past winner of the Judith Stark contest has said that because she was an English major here at CCP, she was encouraged to submit her work for consideration. Now that she has won she says that she is proud to have this achievement on her resume and on her transcript.
CCP is proud to celebrate its creative minds and aspiring writers whether they be poets, storytellers, screenplay writers, or those who write creatively about their own experiences. So proud that after the winners are chosen a big party is thrown in their honor! This November 9th will mark the second annual English and Creative Writing Networking Mixer Elixir. On Monday, November 9th @4pm-7pm, at The Cube in the Pavilion Building, along with past winners of the Judith Stark contest, professional writers, editors, publishers, journalist, teachers, representatives from 4-year colleges (from their respective English and Creative Writing programs), along with our own successful alumni to share about their lives and careers post-CCP, will descend upon our school to celebrate our winners!
Last years Mixer was a huge success! Judith Stark winners read their winning works for a room of engaged listeners, and students also got to mingle and get to know a lot of professionals to learn more about opportunities awaiting them after CCP. The Community College of Philadelphia’s English and Creative Writing departments offers many chances for aspiring writers to put their work out there and get some exposure which will help them grow and be recognized as professional writers. I encourage any hopeful writers to take full advantage of this opportunity and submit your work for consideration.
The deadline to submit to the Judith Stark contest is Monday, November 2nd by 5pm, so there is still time to enter your work. You may submit your work at https://ccp.submittable.com/submit/ the entries are anonymous. Include your name and contact information on the online entry form only. It must not be on the work you’re submitting, any manuscripts with the writers information directly on it will be disqualified. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact David Renshaw @ [email protected].
I am an alumnus of CCP and a third place winner of the Judith Stark Poetry award in 1975 or 1976 with honorable mention subsequently. I’m glad to know this award is still alive and strong. Thanks all
