With the Thanksgiving Holiday coming upon us, as well as the end of our semester here at the Community College of Philadelphia, it is about time you treated yourself. And I recommend a treat that is an “oldie but a goodie” – dinner and a movie.

But not just any dinner and a movie, take a trip out to the Movie Tavern. And, while you are there, I highly recommend the movie, Thor: Ragnarok. With this combo, you will surely have a good time. I guarantee it!

First, the setting. Location is everything and Movie Tavern reinforces that. If you ever wanted to watch a movie, eat and be waited on hand and foot, now you can. Movie Tavern delivers that experience.

At Movie Tavern, you will sit in a comfortable recliner chair. While that is a treat in and of itself, those types of seats are replacing the old traditional chairs that have long been a staple of the movie going experience. The leather reclining chair hit the majority of movie theaters through renovations within the past two years. It definitely makes for a more enjoyable movie going experience.

But, wait, there’s more!

While you are “maxin’ and relaxin’” you can now have food brought to you. I do not know what the movie going experience for the kings and queens of old would have been but the ability to order food, drinks and have a server wait on you seems like royalty to me!

At the Movie Tavern, you can have a tasty burger, delicious fries, yummy ice cream and enjoy a libation or two – ONLY IF YOU ARE 21 AND OLDER!!!

I had a delectable bacon cheeseburger that was cooked to perfection. A mouth-watering beef patty, with delicious strips of bacon and crispy lettuce. I enjoyed a cold beverage. For dessert, I ordered a chocolate brownie that would have made Willy Wonka jealous.

Now, to the movie!

Thor: Ragnarok is phenomenal! It has quite the different tone from the first two Thor movies. It is another winner for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The previous movies of the God of Thunder had a dark, gritty, ominous feel to them. Thor: Ragnarok is the character’s most light-hearted journey to date. It brings Thor back in the mainstream of the Marvel experience. He has not been seen on film since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It also sets up him up for the latest Avengers sequel set to arrive in the spring.

As Thor: Ragnarok opens, Thor has been travelling the universe for a couple years, looking for the other Infinity Stones. When he first appears on screen, he’s the prisoner of the dreaded Surtur, the giant fire demon intent on bringing about Ragnarok (the destruction of Asgard). Thor ends up escaping his clutches and returning home, only to realize that his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) is missing and his adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is impersonating their dad and running Asgard on his own (this sequence features one of the funniest Marvel cameos to date).

What follows can only be described as an excellent adventure that sees Thor go through some rough times, some fun times and a bunch of laughs in between. There is, of course, the villain of the movie, Hela, the Goddess of Death (played by a seductive and menacing Cate Blanchett) and she proves to be Thor’s toughest solo rival to date. I will not spoil the movie but it is an absolute must see.

And, if you have the time, take a ride to Movie Tavern and live it up. Don’t grab dinner, let it be served to you. And while that happens, see one of the best super hero movies of the year!
